MELBOURNE CUP AT THE PUB

If you could create your perfect Melbourne Cup Day would it be delicious drinks, a ripper menu, sitting down at an actual table, big TV screens, sweeps, and good times? Don’t go to the track, come to the pub.

Whether you’re looking for a civilised meal, a more convivial ale and snacks by the bar, or a sunny street-side or courtyard table – our big old building welcomes you.

In the Bistro we have a sensational spring menu that is designed for good vibes on a non-work day. Crab brioche buns! Slow roasted lamb shoulder with globe artichoke caponata, a rose meringue with strawberries and cream, and many more dishes to share – see the full menu below.

We’ll have specials in the Public Bar too – including a chicken souvlaki, with marinated chicken cooked over coals, served in a fresh pita with garlic sauce and salad. $14 on its own or $20 with fries.
We’re definitely having fries.

FREE TO FEED LAKSA NIGHT
Tuesday, 8th October, 2019

On Thursday October 31, we will be teaming up with social enterprise Free to Feed to host a very special laksa night. Our Bowery Room will be transformed into a vibrant dining hall, serving up chicken and vegetarian laksa, chicken skewers cooked over coals with a rich peanut satay and traditional onde-onde (glutinous rice balls with pandan, palm sugar & coconut) – all made using family recipes from one of Free to Feed’s instructors – Manel Krishnan.
A short, sharp drinks list – think Tiger tinnies and Sirap Bandung, will also be on offer.

Free to Feed is a not-for-profit organisation that champions the unique skills of refugees, people seeking asylum and new migrants through employment, training and community support.

Tickets $25, including laksa

PRIVATE EVENTS AT BUILDERS ARMS

We’ve got you covered for all your event and party needs with our two private event spaces, the Bowery Room and our Private Dining Room.

We have a great collection of menus to choose from which reflect the produce driven Builders Arms ethos. Our seated menus are designed to be enjoyed together and are served as a shared banquet.

Our event spaces are located upstairs of the Builders Arms Hotel with great outlooks over the treetops of Gertrude Street and the Builders Courtyard. The Bowery Room hosts 60 guests seated or 90 for a cocktail party. It is a bright and contemporary space that boasts an open kitchen, feature lighting and an entry bar wrapped in stunning vintage tiles. For more intimate events, the Private Dining Room seats up to 18 guests and features an eclectic art and vinyl collection and record player. Both rooms are original spaces of the historic hotel, and have been renovated and restored, retaining the charming character of an 1850s local pub.

TRIVIA NIGHT WITH CAM SMITH

Hosted by Cam Smith, food guru and host of Triple R’s food show Eat It, with a focus on local music, culture, food, booze and much more. Even sensory rounds – you could be sniffing spices and channeling your inner-Ottolenghi.

Trivia brings people together. It’s the mid-week mood boost that we all need – a few friends, some drinks and dinner, and a wholesome, collaborative activity that everyone can put their minds to.

Teams of any size and seriousness are welcome – suited to hardened trivia masters as well as more leisurely groups. Hosted in the pub’s Bistro with table service for drinks and dinner, there’s no rush to the bar to get your fish pie or burger order in between rounds. Sit back and relax, and focus all of your energy on the questions at hand. This is the pub trivia you’ve been waiting your whole life for.

There’s also spot prizes for bonus individual questions – so it’s every man/woman for themselves for a moment of individual glory.

Each month we showcase a protein, cooked over the coals and serve with gravy and seasonal vegetables from our faithful suppliers.

This month it’s a rolled pork shoulder porchetta from our Smith Street butcher, Meatsmith.
